DeBeer 1-60 Plastic Adhesion Primer

#27 - DeBeer 1-60 Plastic Adhesion Primer

DeBeer 1-60 1K Plastic Primer

One way to think about 1-60 is that its function is “like that” of an etch primer, except for raw plastic parts only.

Its job is to create the layer of adhesion between the raw plastic and the overlaying paint coating.

Note: without it, the chance of paint delamination from the plastic is very high.

1-60 is suitable for all common plastic types currently used to produce OEM exterior parts used in the Automotive Industry.

Application is just 1 x light coat (followed by a 15-minute flash).

1-60 1K Plastic Primer is an adhesion primer for common car plastics.

Adhesion primer formulated for various car plastics used in automotive refinishing. It enhances adhesion on new, un-primed plastic parts, reducing application and drying time when mixed with 8-746 High Production Non-Sanding Primer.

1-60 can be directly overcoated with:

  • DeBeer 2K Primer Surfacer.
  • DeBeer 2K Polyurethane Topcoat.
  • DeBeer 500 Solvent Basecoat.
  • DeBeer 900+ Water Basecoat.

Important Notes

  • Do not use on Polyethylene (PE) and pure Polypropylene (PP).
  • Do not use on pre-primed plastic parts. If you're unsure of the plastic type, test the adhesion prior to refinishing.
  • Do not use on factory pre-primed parts.

Don't forget: if you are applying a 2K primer as a surfacer, followed by a 2K colour or, 2K clearcoat over, e.g. a modern plastic bumper-bar, you should add 47-39 flex-additive to these products to ensure the 2K coating can “flex” on the bar without cracking or splitting.

Nothing worse than seeing cracked clearcoat on the bumper-bar of a nice car.
