#20 - DeBeer 47-39 2K Elastic
Often overlooked by many refinishers is the addition of an important additive which should be used when painting flexible substrates such as vehicle bumper bars.
Most 2K primers/topcoats and clearcoats once cured are ridged, “they don't want to move”.
Bumper bars are made with a degree of flexibility, if they are put under stress due to a minor contact (nudge) they will move and flex.
Coatings which have not had 47-39 added, and because of such movement are likely to result in the 2k coating “CRACKING or SPLITTING” around the point of impact. From this point on the coating will begin to fail as moisture and dust work their way into and under the cracks.
47-39 is a flex additive which enables DeBeer 2K polyurethane clearcoats, topcoats and primers to be used over semi flexible plastics.
47-39 2K Elastic gives 2K clears the flexibility for application on plastic parts of bumpers and spoilers. The more product added, the more flexible the clear becomes.
47-39 also allows the topcoat to be more resistant to STONE CHIPPING.
- Mix with the primer, topcoat or clearcoat before the addition of the hardener or thinner.
- You can add 5-30% (depending on the flexibility of the substrate).
- For a “typical” modern bumper bar add 10% - 47-39.
- Note: 500 series solvent and 900+ series WaterBase basecoats do not require the addition of 47-39.
DeBeer 47-39 2K Elastic Benefits:
- Flexibility of application on plastic parts of bumpers and spoilers
- Elastifies 2K Clears and top coats
