#33 - DeBeer 577 & 588 BeroBase Binders
MM 577 and MM 588 are solvent basecoat wax additives, they have 3 main functions.
- Ensure the aluminium flake lays properly with the correct orientation.
- Makes sure there is enough resin between the aluminium to give the paint coating strength.
- Help to avoid colour mottle.
MM 577 can be used unlimited, MM 588 cannot (only add 588 if the formulation asks for it)
Important:
BeroBase 500 Metallic toners, 513, 513vf, 513b, and 513c must never be used straight from the toner tin as a stand-alone silver colour, they MUST have 577 or 588 added to give the straight silver colour strength and uniformity.
If you're wanting to make a "straight silver" (using only a silver toner) you can find a formulation for this on ICRIS by searching: Colour → Car → Brands → (type in) "Met", and this will give you a list of the De Beer silver toners 513, 513vf, 513b, and 513c with the correct binder ratio already added.
If making a Custom metallic colour without the help of an original formula, you must always add 577 and/or 588. This can be done in ICRIS under "Custom/Maintenance".
Once the toners for the custom formula have been added, click the "Yes" radio button under "Wax calc.", this will automatically add the correct amount of 577 and/or 588 to the mix.
