It all started with a rock. More than a century ago in June 1902, the discovery of minerals on the shores of Lake Superior prompted five Minnesota Entrepreneurs to start a brand new venture. But success didn't come easy. It demanded collaboration, persistence and the courage to boldly innovate beyond the norms of the time.

The discovery of those rocks in 1902 created new opportunities and the start of a culture of innovation that has now driven 3M's success for more than a century. This continues to be a driving force behind everything 3M does. They continue to nurture their passion and desire for discovery as they work together towards a common goal of making the world a better place for everyone.
